100 ANS OF BEAUTY
La Garçonne (the Flapper) is already 100 years old!
The novel La Garçonne by Victor Margueritte, published in 1922 created a sensation and established a new status quo for women. The role they played during the First World War had given them wings and opened up new horizons. They started to work, some even doing men’s jobs. They drove, took on new challenges, got into sport, smoked and went out as they pleased and without a chaperone. The young woman described in the novel created a whole revolution. Sexually liberated, she was seductive as much by her daring behavior as her new look. She wore short hair, adopted new beauty gestures and showed off her legs. Sport was part of her beauty routine and makeup became a symbol of emancipation. Red lips and smoky eyes were the new rule.
